up-to-lineRank data

Create Top N rankings in dashboards to highlight best and worst-performing metrics using data-driven visuals. Top N ranking makes it easy to compare metrics across, say, regions or products. It brings top and bottom performers into focus across charts, KPI cards, and tables in your Fabric dashboards.

In this tutorial, you learn how to:

  • Rank data based on actual values or percentages

  • Rank row and column categories in trellises

  • Rank stacked charts

Rank data based on value

In this example, you'll display the top 8 categories by volume sold.

  1. Click the TopN option from the toolbar.

  2. Select the Top option to display the top-performing categories.

  3. Use the Value option to rank categories based on their values.

  4. Enter the number of categories to display.

  5. Select the measure used to rank the categories from the Based on menu.

  6. Enable the Show remaining items as option to render the items that fall below the specified rank(Step 4) as a single category.

The tabs show how charts and tables are rendered after ranking the data based on value/percentage.

Row and column ranking

You can rank based on rows or columns for charts in trellis mode. The Top N dialog has a row and column tab for trellises. Follow the steps outlined in the previous section in each of these tabs.

In this example, we will use TopN ranking to identify the regions and product categories with the lowest sales.

After ranking, the lowest-performing row and column categories are displayed.

Ranking for stacked charts

Apply Top N ranking to stacked charts to display only the top or bottom performing stack categories. The steps outlined in the first section can be applied in the Stacked tab. The images show how ranking can be used to display the top-performing product categories.

Only the top 3 stack categories are displayed.
