Create Scenario

Scenario lets you model and analyze different business situations by simulating values based on your business needs. You can configure specific scenarios to meet your unique business requirements and data structures.

This article helps you set up, duplicate, manage, compare, and writeback these scenarios to ensure your performance management processes are accurate and efficient.

Prerequisites

To complete this configuration, you need the following:

  • An Azure account with an active subscription.

  • Planning license and environment access.

Configure scenario settings

  1. Open Plan > Create Scenario.

  2. Configure scenario properties and permissions under General and Permissions

  3. Under Scenario > Scenario Settings, you can edit the general and permission settings.

  4. Choose your Simulation type under the Input method.

    • Calibrate the Simulation slider to adjust the value and simulate changes

    • Distribute the value across descendants using Distribution

  5. You can display variance by checking Show Variance.

  6. Configure your variance settings from the Slider Settings.

Copy simulations to a base scenario

You can copy simulations performed on data input measures or columns directly to your base report.

  1. Open the scenario containing the simulations you want to keep.

  2. From the toolbar, select Copy to Base. Alternatively, select the More Options (...) icon next to the scenario tab in the footer and select Copy to Base.

  3. In the dialog box that appears, review the list of columns that will be exported.

  4. Select Proceed.

The simulations from your scenario are now applied to the corresponding measures in the base report.

Edit, duplicate, or delete a scenario

You can manage the lifecycle of your scenarios to keep your workspace organized.

  1. Hover over the name of the scenario in the footer.

  2. Select the More Options icon that appears.

  3. Select the relevant action: Edit, Duplicate, Delete, or Hide.

Set a default scenario

By default, the Base scenario is displayed when a user opens a report in reading mode. You can change this so that a specific simulation loads on initialization.

  1. Navigate to the scenario you want users to see first.

  2. Select Make as Default.

A pin icon appears next to the scenario name in the footer to indicate it is the default view.

Format scenario styles

You can manually format scenarios at the cell, row, or column level, or use the format painter to ensure visual consistency across your report.

  1. On the toolbar, select the Format tab.

  2. Apply formatting using the Cell, Value, or Column styles.

  3. To copy a style from another scenario:

    • Select the Format Painter.

    • Select the copy style formatting from the scenario.

    • Choose Base or select a specific ScenarioName.
